Response to Intervention
(RtI)
The students at each
grade level are given the NWEA-MAP and AIMSweb benchmark assessment tests three
time a year: fall, winter, spring. Student scores determine the placement in
the RtI model. Tier 1 students (25%ile and above) are considered benchmark and
receive core instruction. Tier 2 students (below the 25%ile) spend 30
minutes of extra time working with a qualified instructor (classroom teacher,
reading teacher, reading assistants) working on skills and strategies in
their targeted deficit area of concern. Students who do not respond to the Tier
2 instruction may be moved to a Tier 3 level, following a problem solving
meeting that includes parents and the problem solving team. These students receive
an additional 30 minutes a day of reading interventions for a total of 60
minutes of reading instruction.
